Jackson MS is a city located in the south central area of the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 36,316. It is the county seat of Jackson County, Michigan 6. It was founded in 1827, and is named after Democratic President Jackson. It is the birthplace of the Republican Party. Horace Blackman of Tioga County, New York, settled what now Jackson is in July of 1829. Settlers continued to arrive, and a post office was opened in 1830. The name of Jackson burgh was given to the settlement in honor of Andrew Jackson, but was changed to Jackson polis and then shortened to Jackson in 1833.
